TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. -- A Purdue football player is charged with battery after police say he punched a former teammate so hard that he broke his jaw.
Purdue offensive lineman Martesse Patterson was arrested on Wednesday. He's facing a felony charge of battery resulting in serious bodily injury.
According to court documents, Alexander Hilger made the complaint to police in West Lafayette on September 11.
Hilger told police that on September 7, Patterson came into his room at their home on Hayes Street to borrow something. Hilger said he told Patterson he could not borrow it, but Patterson took it anyway.
Hilger says Patterson punched him in the face when he went into Patterson's room to get his property back.
Court documents say Hilger spent two days in the hospital with a broken jaw that required surgery.
