Purdue president appoints staff to review summer camp sexual allegations

Posted

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – An internal review of a Purdue University summer camp will be conducted in light of allegations of sexual misconduct and misbehavior this week.

President Mitch Daniels appointed Alysa Christmas Rollock to lead the review of Camp DASH, a program for students ages 11-15 that teaches them how diet affects blood pressure. Rollock currently serves as the university’s vice president for ethics and compliance.

On July 21, campus police were called to Tarkington Hall for attempted battery. Officers also logged reports of voyeurism, attempted rape, threats and assault.

University officials said during the program’s first session, a participant threatened another while falsely claiming they had a gun and a knife. More incidents occurred that led to the expulsion of seven participants.

Investigators believe many of the allegations involved the behavior of one female camp participant and not any Purdue students or staff.

Purdue officials said the internal review and assessment will be conducted in a way that will not interfere with the ongoing law enforcement investigation by the Purdue University Police Department and the Indiana Department of Child Services. Findings will be forwarded to the Tippecanoe County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
