INDIANAPOLIS —It should soon be a lot easier for businesses, local governments, and non-profit groups to recycle in Indiana.

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management announced the availability of recycling grants that range from $1,000 to $250,000 on Thursday.

Groups and businesses would have to submit proposals by June 21 to get money for recycling through those grants. The agency says eligible projects will focus on re-use, reduction and recycling methods of municipal solid waste.

“IDEM is pleased to aid both Indiana’s economic development and the environment through recycling efforts,” Bruno Pigott, IDEM Commissioner, said. “The Recycling Market Development Program funding can add greater efficiency in manufacturing, increase education and outreach efforts to reduce waste, and contribute to environmental sustainability.”

According to IDEM, proposals should demonstrate an understanding of the changing economy for recyclers. They should also look at where monies can be used most effectively by businesses and communities to increase statewide recycling goals.

The Recycling Market Development Board will make final funding determinations by the end of 2019.
