Red Cross delivering meals to Kokomo tornado victims

Posted

KOKOMO, Ind. -- The volunteer effort to clean up tornado-battered Kokomo continued Monday night, with crews patrolling the area looking for those in need of a meal.

Red Cross vans traveled Howard County looking for those in need of assistance as they worked to piece their lives back together.

"It actually means a lot to us," said Heidi Otiker. "I know that a lot of us didn't have power, didn't have food, so everything in the fridges went to waste."

At the temporary Red Cross shelter, only about a dozen people remained. Most of them spent the day at their properties working to clean them up.

Red Cross officials estimate around 400 homes and apartments were badly damaged or destroyed by the tornadoes. They plan to continue meal service to those neighborhoods in the days ahead.
