SPEEDWAY, Ind. -- The Department of Natural Resources is investigating the shooting of a Red-tailed Hawk in Speedway.
The hawk was one of two that moved into the neighborhood near 30th and Moller Road back in March.
John Welch and his family had watched the hawks as they sat on top of a power pole.
They came home Wednesday night to find one of the birds lying in their yard.
Welch thinks a neighbor is to blame.
The Red-tailed Hawk is a protected bird, falling under the Federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act, which means shooting it is a crime.
