INDIANAPOLIS — A youth organization and a west side Indianapolis church have donated supplies to the Officer Breann Leath Memorial Maternal-Child Health Unit at the Indiana Women's prison.

Leath was the Indianapolis police officer shot to death in early April while investigating a domestic incident. Since then, a unit at the women's prison has been renamed in her honor.

The supplies came from the Indiana Youth for Christ Organization and the Chapel Rock Christian Church, which is located just down the road from the prison.

The program there allows incarcerated pregnant mothers to keep their infants with them until release, and more than 200 women have since the unit was launched.

Given the shortage of items in stores due to the coronavirus, the Officer Breann Leath Memorial Maternal-Child Health Unit has been accepting donations of diapers, wipes, formula, and other baby items.

In a show of thanks, the pregnant women and mothers in the unit have made cards of thanks to show their gratitude to the church and youth group.
