INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis park system is ranked worst in the country, according to a recent survey of parks systems in the biggest cities across the United States.
Indianapolis has been named one of the most park-poor cities in the nation, according to the Trust for Public's Land ParkScore Index for 2017.
Out of the 100 ranked cities, Indianapolis tied for last place with Fort Wayne.
The ranking evaluates cities on the metrics of park access, park size and investment in parks and popular amenities like dog parks, playgrounds, recreation centers.
Indianapolis ranked lowest in every category of park accessibility and even had the lowest number of parks available to those with higher income.
According to the report, only 5 percent of land in Indianapolis is used for parks and there are only 1.5 playgrounds for ever 10,000 people in the city.
