INDIANAPOLIS – Dozens of Rexnord workers are set to face layoffs Wednesday as the company plans to move its Indianapolis plant to Mexico and Texas.
The layoffs will include 30 people who will stop employment with the company either through retirement or layoffs.
John Feltner said for the past seven months he and his wife Nina have had several difficult conversations about what’s next for their family.
“The unknown - you know - this is what we've been doing for a long time,” said Feltner. “This is what we've known and turning it upside down...it is scary."
Feltner’s daughter Emily attends Indiana State University, but may move home to save money and finish her degree at IUPUI.
“I'm ready for it to be over and for him to find something else,” said Nina. “I'm worried about him finding another job."
Some Rexnord employees have found new jobs but are unable to leave because if they don’t have the company’s permission, they will not receive their severance.
Union representatives said they believe 125 workers will have jobs through June, but expect another round of layoffs possibly June 30.
