RICHMOND, Ind. -- The Richmond public pool is closed until further notice after dozens of people reported getting mysterious cuts on their feet while visiting the pool.
The Richmond Parks and Recreation Department said they received 61 reports of children who had their feet cut while swimming in a two-to-four foot area of the pool.
"Of the nearly 3,000 visitors to the pool in the four days prior to closing, two percent reported those abrasions," the department said in a release sent out Wednesday. "While this represents a small number of the pool's visitors, the Parks Department has decided to take a precautionary path to ensure the safety of all visitors."
Staff members have been examining the pool liner, running the pool vacuum for extra long periods of time after close and re-testing chemicals but have been unable to figure out what was causing the cuts.
Because of this, the Parks Department has decided to temporarily close the pool to further investigate the cause of the foot abrasions.
It is unclear at this time how long the pool will remain closed.
