Exantus' lawyer: Client has mental condition

Posted

The attorney representing an Indianapolis man accused of killing a 6-year-old boy in Kentucky says she's sure her client is suffering from a mental condition.

Public Defender Bridget Hofler says in her interactions with Ronald Exantus, at times he seems like a normal, everyday guy. But most of the time, she says, it appears he is suffering from some sort of psychosis and isn't coherent.

Hofler described Exantus as a 32-year-old, upper-middle class registered nurse who worked at the same job for eight years, and never had as much as a parking ticket. She says he has three kids and a girlfriend.

Hofler is fighting to get her client to a mental health facility for treatment and a specific diagnosis. The judge in the case has not yet accepted any of those requests.
