INDIANAPOLIS — At the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Thursday RTV6's photographer, Shea Goodpaster, rode shotgun in a truck — with no driver.
Well, there was a safety driver ready to take control at any time, but Shea got a demonstration of what could be a future trend in the trucking industry — self-driving trucks.
Companies like Allison Transmission, Cummins and Purdue are working on trucking technology.
Currently, the self-driving trucking technology from ZF is not ready for the open road and is in testing.
Officials say once the technology is entirely up to speed, the safety driver might not be needed.
You could see these vehicles in the lane next to you — imagine that.
