The U.S. Department of State is warning travelers to be vigilant if they're planning a trip outside the country for spring break.
You can keep track of all of the current travel advisories by downloading the Smart Traveler App, which shows you the level of safety in each country.
The USDS also suggests travelers purchase insurance for things like flight cancellations, stolen baggage, emergency evacuations and medical expenses.
And make sure if you're leaving the country that you have all of the proper documentation with you and know who to contact in the case of an emergency.
