FORT HOOD, TX -- The U.S. Army soldier and Avon native that went missing in mid-October was found dead in Fort Hood, TX Thursday.
Fort Hood base officials said the body was discovered next to Stump's flipped-over vehicle in a wooded area approximately 100 yards from the roadway at the Fort Hood base around 11:50 a.m.
Stump was last seen Oct. 10 according to friends and family.
Law officials believe due to extensive damage to the vehicle and surrounding trees and foliage, the vehicle flipped multiple times. It was not visible to the roadway as terrain and heavy vegetation was in the area.
The 1st Cavalry Division Public Service Office listed Stump with an Absent Without Leave Status during his time missing.
Stump entered active-duty service in March as an indirect-fire infantryman. He since has been awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Army Service Ribbon.

Fort Hood base officials said the incident is under investigation and an autopsy will be performed by the Office of the Armed Forces Medical Examiner at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware.
