Sen. Delph calls for statewide threat assessment

Posted

INDIANAPOLIS -- Does Indiana need a statewide threat assessment? State Sen. Mike Delph thinks so.

The Carmel Republican wants to start a conversation on what we can do as a state to be better prepared when it comes to resources, technology and coordination.

Delph is requesting a summer study committee review the state's assets and look at what could be at risk. He says that could include schools, professional sports facilities and water purification plants.

Delph points to the recent terror attacks in Brussels, Paris and San Bernardino as the need to assess potential threats here at home.

"We can't depend on the federal government in totality," Delph said. "We have to be somewhat self-sufficient, and we have to, I think, be better at coordinating assets across levels of government, meaning state and local assets."

The Indiana Senate unanimously passed Delph's resolution, though it's non-binding.
