Sen. Donnelly praises FBI's anti-terror efforts in Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS -- Following a briefing with the FBI, Sen. Joe Donnelly offered praised this week for the agency's anti-terrorism efforts in Indiana.

The briefing comes after 18-year-old Brownsburg resident Akram Musleh was arrested on charges of attempting to provide aid to the Islamic State.

"They knew about him," Donnelly said. "Had followed him. Stayed on their toes in regards to him and acted at an appropriate time to make sure we were all safe."

Donnelly said the country must stay vigilant and provide law enforcement with the necessary tools and money.

Counter-terrorism expert Peter Beering agreed, saying terrorists are constantly devising better ways to conceal their intentions.

"There is absolutely an arms race underway between the good guys and the bad guys," Beering said. "The bad guys aren't always agile and better-funded. Unfortunately in the new world order, law enforcement has to make difficult decisions on how to spend what limited resources there are."
