INDIANAPOLIS—Water in the Indianapolis downtown canal took on a different look, Saturday.

It was colored teal during the kickoff of Sexual Assault Awareness Month

Teal is the representative color for sexual assault.

The Indiana Coalition to End Sexual Assault held its annual "Teal the Canal" event.

"Tealing the canal is more than a symbolic gesture, it is an opportunity for everyone in attendance to confirm their shared commitment to work together to end sexual violence in Indiana." said Tracey Horth Krueger, CEO of the Indiana coalition.

Sexual Assault Awareness Month is a "campaign to raise public awareness about sexual violence and educate communities on how to prevent it," according to the National Sexual Assault Resource Center.

This year's theme is: "I ASK," which supports the message that "asking for consent is a healthy, normal and necessary part of everyday interaction."

The Indiana Coalition to End Sexual Assault is working to improve the state's response to victims of sexual assault and human trafficking by bringing awareness to this problem and educating Hoosiers, ultimately leading to the end of sexual violence, according to Horth Kruger.
