INDIANAPOLIS -- Leaders of the NCAA in Indianapolis were presented a 157,000 signature petition Wednesday to create a task force on sexual assaults.

Darius Adams, a basketball player at Tacoma Community College in Washington, started the petition after Baylor University’s sexual assault incidents.

Since 2014, at least three Baylor football players have been charged with sexual assault.

Adams and his mother, Brenda Tracy, presented the petition calling for a task force to oversee how sexual crimes are handled for college athletes.

The experience of sexual assault was a personal reality for Tracy nearly 20 years ago.

“When the Baylor scandal hit the media, I was really upset. It felt like nothing had changed since my assault happened," she said.

Currently the NCAA allows leaders of athletic conferences and departments to determine punishments for athletes as guided by a handbook created in 2014.

Tracy said since her meeting with the NCAA, leadership has been “extremely receptive” to establishing a task force.
