JENNINGS COUNTY, Ind. -- A Seymour, Indiana, woman was found killed in a car crash Tuesday evening three days after she was reported missing and now the driver has been charged with her death.
Nikki K. Reed, 37, of Seymour, was reported missing Sunday by her family members, who told police she was last heard from the day before while on her way back from picking up her boyfriend, 39-year-old Kevin Bell, from Pennsylvania.
Shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday, Indiana State Police troopers were called to a one-vehicle crash on U.S. 50 near the Jennings-Ripley county line. Officers arrived to find Bell, suffering from serious injuries to his legs and lower extremities, had crawled to the side of the road from the scene of a crash past the embankment below.
Inside the vehicle, which apparently ran off the road sometime Saturday afternoon and crashed head-on into a tree, police found Reed's body. They believe she died instantly from injuries sustained in the crash.
Police said Bell told them he was unable to reach the top of the embankment for three days due to the injuries he sustained. He was transported to St. Vincent-Jennings Hospital in North Vernon for treatment.
During their investigation, troopers learned that Bell was driving the car when it crashed. They also learned that Bell was driving on a suspended license.
A warrant has been issued for Bell in connection to that crash. He's facing charges of driving while suspended causing death, leaving the scene of a fatal crash, failure to report a dead body, driving while suspended and false informing.
Police are still trying to locate Bell.
The crash remains under investigation.
