Shelbyville, IND. — Leaders in Shelbyville are looking ahead and planning for future development, and they want to hear from you.

The Shelbyville Planning and Building Department is working on getting feedback from the community about it’s comprehensive plan.

Shelbyville has been awarded Community Development Block Grant funding through the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs to help fund an update to the plan.

According to the Shelbyville Planning and Building Department, the goal of the plan is to take a look at the community and figure out how and where development should take place over the next two to three decades.

While the plan looks 20-30 years out, leaders say it should be reviewed and updated every 5-7 years to make sure the vision described in the plan is still the vision citizens have for their community.

Shelbyville residents are being asked to take time to complete a community survey so their voice can be incorporated in forming this vision.

On Friday May 4th, community members are also invited to come to Historic Downtown Shelbyville from 6-9 p.m. for the “First Friday event.” It’s another chance to provide feedback for the updated plan.

The City’s current comprehensive plan was adopted in 2010. According to city leaders, since that time many of the goals in the plan have been completed and new opportunities present themselves, which is why they want to update the plan.
