Kayakers find body of missing Shelby County man in Big Blue River

SHELBY COUNTY, Ind. -- The body of a missing 38-year-old Shelby County man was found in a river Sunday afternoon. 

Deputies were called just after 4 p.m. by a group of kayakers who came across the body in the Big Blue River, just west of Shelbyville. 

The Shelby County Coroner identified the body as Christopher A. Young, 38. 

Young was reported missing by family members last month after he went out to chase his dogs and never returned home

Young's family issued the following statement Monday afternoon.

"He was a hard-working father, husband, son, brother. He loved his family more than life itself! He a daughter, 1 and a son, 19 who was his world. He also had step-children who was like his own. He is also an awesome uncle.”

The cause and manner of death is pending a full autopsy. It is unclear if foul play is suspected.

The death remains under investigation by the Shelby County Sheriff's Dept.
