SHELBY CO. — The Shelby County Sheriff’s Department will now have extra deputies on the road after they received a grant from the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute.

Sheriff’s deputies will be out patrolling for seat belt use as well as dangerous and impaired driving.

“We feel honored to patrol Shelbyville and Shelby County. We are fortunate that the vast majority of drivers are very observant of the laws of the roads,” Major Louie Koch, Shelby County Sheriff’s Department said.

The focus of the extra deputies on patrol will be to make roads safer for drivers.

“We will be focusing on those drivers who are creating dangerous situations that could tragically lead to a fatality,” Major Koch said.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Department is encouraging the public to report any impaired or dangerous drivers to the 911 Dispatch Center.
