SHELBY COUNTY—Shelbyville Police are warning parents to wait at bus stops with students after a child was approached by a stranger.
Shelbyville Central Schools reported the incident on Monday morning to police. It happened in the 1000 block of Highpointe Boulevard.
According to investigators, a child was approached by an older African American man who asked if the boy wanted a ride to school. Police say the man was driving a large black van.
Shelbyville Police are now encouraging parents to talk to their children about the important of not talking to strangers. Parents are also being asked to report any incidents to the school principal and to police.
SPD has patrols out every morning. Police say they are trying to cover as many bus stops as they can.
In a Facebook post, the department wrote “We look to partner with parents to provide a safe area for our kids to be able to board the bus.”
