SHELBY COUNTY, Ind. -- Rescue teams pulled a man from the water on the Flat Rock River in southern Shelby County after he became stuck in a low-head dam Monday afternoon.

The Shelbyville Fire Department says the man was stuck in a low-head dam on the river at 300 E. and Vandalia Road just after noon Monday.

Rescue personnel arrived to find the man clinging to a small plastic watercraft in the center of the river, held in the recirculating water between the face of the dam and the boil line.

The rescue team utilized a two-boat tether to safely get to the man and threw him a rope. He appeared to be pulled under the surface, across the boil line before rescue personnel could get to him. A rescue team member jumped in the water, grabbed him and moved him to the safety of the rescue team's boat.

The entire incident was caught on video. You can watch the dramatic rescue in the video player at the top of this story.

Once he was ashore, the man was transported to a local emergency department in Shelbyville via ambulance.

The condition of the man has not been released, but the Shelbyville Fire Department said he was becoming very hypothermic due to the weather conditions and fast moving water when they rescued him.
