INDIANAPOLIS — A 13-year-old boy has been shot and seriously wounded on the Indianapolis northeast side.

Police were called to an apartment at 4015 Windhill Drive, near East 42nd and North Post Road, at about 4:30 p.m. after receiving calls that a person had been shot.

The neighborhood is among the most violent in the city.

At the scene, IMPD Public Information Officer Genae Cook said police were not sure if the shooting was an accident or intentional. Cook said other children and adults were inside the apartment when the shooting took place.

The boy was rushed to Riley Hospital for Children in "critical" condition.

It's the second time in less than one week that a young person has been shot on the east side.

On Saturday a 15-year-old boy was shot and killed on Priscilla Avenue near East 30th Street.

Cook said detectives are just beginning their investigation into what happened on Windhill Drive.
