SPEEDWAY — A two-year-old boy is a drowning victim, after going into a retention pond.

The Speedway police and fire departments were called to the Eagle Creek Court apartments off West 21st Street and Cunningham Road, just after 6 p.m. Tuesday.

According to a public information officer with the Speedway Fire Department, the child was out of the water when emergency teams arrived, and efforts were being made to revive him. The boy was rushed by ambulance to Riley Hospital for Children, but was pronounced dead just before 7 p.m.

The victim's mother was at the scene and had been searching for her son. It's estimated the boy was in the water about 20-minutes.
