Small town post office suddenly shut down

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Ind. -- Most of the people living in an unincorporated town have to pick up their mail because there is no mail delivery.

Two weeks ago, a closed sign appeared on the Charlottesville Post Office.

It was shut down due to unsafe conditions at the facility including rodents, and a lack of heating and air conditioning.

The U.S. Postal Service provided this statement about the closure

The Charlottesville Post Office has been temporarily closed to safety concerns in the building. The safety of our employees who work there and customers who visit are of the utmost concern for the Postal Service. The Postal Service does not own the building and has temporarily closed the location to give the landlord the opportunity to correct these safety issues. Customers who are served by the Charlottesville Post Office will receive a letter outlining alternative Postal Services access until the issues are resolved. We certainly regret any inconvenience this has caused our customers.
