BARTHOLOMEW CO. -- A missing soldier has been found after disappearing during a camp exercise.
An emergency search started Thursday night after a soldier disappeared from Camp Atterbury.
Captain Jessica Cates said several war officer candidates began a land navigation course Thursday morning around 11 a.m. The course encompasses approximately 1,000 acres around Camp Atterbury.
Each candidate was given a compass and points on a map they have to find.
Cates said the course typically takes 3-4 hours to complete, but one female soldier was still missing as of Thursday evening.
Cates later confirmed the soldier was found inside the camp and was being checked out as a precaution.
Cates said the soldier has about 11 years of service. She was equipped with an M-16 rifle, but no ammunition, and had no means of communication.
Camp Atterbury is located west of Edinburgh in Bartholomew County. It serves as a training base for the Indiana National Guard.
