FRANKFORT —Yes, that smell wafting through the air near the Clinton County Jail really was pies baking.

According to the Clinton County Sheriff's Office in Frankfort, female inmates at the jail teamed up with food service workers on Tuesday to bake 40 pies in the jail's kitchen. Flavors include pecan and pumpkin.

"These ladies productively assembled pies this morning between breakfast and lunch service as their community service project for the holiday season," said Jail Matron Ashley Kelly.

Next stop for the pies is Thursday's Frankfort Community Thanksgiving Dinner. It's a great holiday tradition in Frankfort and takes place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Neighborhood Center, 259 South Third Street.

"Once again, our inmates did not disappoint," said Kelly. "They made pies from scratch in our kitchen, with the wonderful assistance of our food vendor, Kellwell, and they are proud of the product they put out for the dinner donation."

Time for dessert, Frankfort!
