"I just still can't believe it happened"

EVANSVILLE, Ind. --  "She loved those kids," said Susan Jordan's brother, Bob Kelley.

Jordan, the principal of Amy Beverland Elementary School in Lawrence Township, was killed Tuesday in a bus crash in front of the school.

The bus driver told firefighters that she saw Jordan push several students out of the way before she was killed.

Kelley told the Evansville Courier & Press he wasn't surprised by what his sister did to get the children out of harm's way.

Jordan was from Evansville and her family still lives there.

"I just still can't believe it happened. I can't believe it," said Kelley of his sister.

According to a release from Lawrence Township Schools, Jordan received her bachelor's degree from the University of Evansville in 1968, her master's from Butler University in 1988, and her administrator's license in 1992.

Jordan taught in Evansville for four years before moving to Indianapolis.

The release says Jordan started a family before returning to teaching in 1983 at Skiles Test Elementary until the fall of 1986.

Jordan also taught at Brook Park Elementary in Lawrence Township. 

She served as principal of Brook Park from 1992 to 1996, and was appointed principal at Amy Beverland in 1996 where the district says, "her leadership impacted students for decades."

Susan Jordan built a culture of excellence at Amy Beverland, a Four Star School. She is referred to as a "legend" because of her tremendous leadership and professionalism. Her love and dedication to her students, staff, and the entire Amy Beverland family showed every day.

Susan Jordan is survived by two daughters, Amy and Lisa, who live in Lawrence Township with their families.
