BROWN COUNTY, Ind. -- The man who police say attacked a Brown County High School student won't stand trial for now.

Dana Ericson is leaving prison and headed to a mental health facility for the next three months. He was ruled mentally incompetent.

Prosecutors say he attacked a foreign exchange student from China in February, calling it an act of "ethnic cleansing."

According to the probable cause affidavit, Ericson told police he struck the student and said, "Is it a crime to strike evil?"

The document says that Ericson said he targeted her because she was Asian.

The probable cause affidavit goes on to say that Ericson admitted he is a white supremacist who said he, "hates these people."

The student survived and is back in school. He could still be tried later if he's ruled to have recovered.
