SWAT raid finds drugs, guns stolen from three counties

INDIANAPOLIS -- A SWAT team raid on the northwest side turned up a drug press, narcotics and eight guns – including at least three found to have been stolen from nearby counties.

The search warrant was executed last Thursday at a home on the 3500 block of Catalpa Avenue.

Inside, officers found 1.5 ounces of marijuana, 1.38 ounces of heroin, a drug press and eight guns: a Glock .40-caliber handgun; a Glock 9mm handgun; a Springfield 9mm handgun; two AR-15 rifles; and three SKS 7.62x39mm rifles.

Three of the weapons – one of the Glocks, the Springfield pistol and an AR-15 – were found to have been stolen from Madison, Decatur and Noble counties, respectively. Additionally, one of the SKS rifles had its serial number "obliterated."

“I applaud the efforts of our North District narcotics detectives,” said IMPD Chief Troy Riggs in a press release. “Removing these high-powered rifles and handguns could potentially save a life and prevent further violence on the streets of Indianapolis.”

Riggs said the raid stemmed from information given directly to North District narcotics detectives.

Anyone with information about criminal activity or narcotics trafficking is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 262-TIPS.
