Thieves steal angel statues from woman's grave

Posted

INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indianapolis man as asking for thieves to have a heart and return the angel statues they stole from his wife's grave.

Two concrete angels once stood on either side of Juanita Hines' grave. On Monday night, thieves stole them.

"It takes a real sick person to do this," said Rob Hines. "Real sick."

Hines says he visits his wife's grave every other day and meticulously puts together seasonal decorations in her honor.

"She took care of me for almost 28 years," he said. "My home, my son and everything. This is my way to give back to her. It's sad people have to steal from us."

The angels are 3' tall, made out of concrete and weigh about 30 pounds. Hines said they cost about $120 apiece. He thinks thieves may try to turn the angels into Christmas gifts.

"I know I'll probably never get them back," he said. "But when their mother, grandmother, or wife opens them up on Christmas morning and want them to know where they come from. They sure didn't come from the person who gives it to them."

The Floral Park Cemetery general manager was at a loss for what happened. She said the theft is an isolated situation.

Hines said he plans on replacing the angels if they aren't returned.
