LAFAYETTE — A Lafayette police officer has resigned following an investigation into the possible theft and sale of department-owned ammunition.
A criminal investigation conducted by the Lafayette Police Department’s detective division has been completed after the Department was notified of a possible theft and sale of department owned ammunition in late October.
The investigation indicated that Officer Kevin Price had allegedly sold ammunition, owned by the City of Lafayette, to a third party without authorization from the police department.
An internal affairs investigation into the incident has also been completed, with the results of the investigation forwarded to the chief’s office for review.
On Nov. 2, Price was placed on administrative leave.
Price resigned from the department on Monday, the same day the Lafayette Police Civil Service Commission was set to meet in executive session to "receive information and discuss alleged misconduct and employment status of an officer."
This criminal investigation has now been turned over to the Tippecanoe County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
No charges have been filed in the case.
