New Purdue grant covers remaining tuition, fees and book expenses

WEST LAFAYETTE,  Ind. – Purdue students in need of some extra financial assistance will get help next year.

In the 2018-2019 school year, undergraduate students will have a chance to take advantage of the Boiler Affordability Grant, which “after applying other need-based aid, will cover any remaining tuition, fees and estimated book expenses up to full financial need for qualifying Indiana resident undergraduates.”

The grant will be offered to those who attend Purdue’s West Lafayette campus and pursing their first bachelor’s degree. Students must be Pell Grant-eligible or have a parent Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) of $70,000 or less.

It’s estimated that 3,000 Indiana students at Purdue will be eligible for the grant. They must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid by Purdue’s March 1 deadline.

Purdue hasn’t increased its cost of tuition in the past 6 years.

“Not only does this program make additional funding available to address student financial need, but it also removes some of the mystery from the financial aid process,” said Ted Malone, executive director of Purdue’s Division of Financial Aid. “Instead of waiting until the FAFSA is complete to have some idea of expected costs, families that fall in this income range will know before they file the FAFSA that a Purdue education is within reach.”

The grant will also include differential fees with the exception of courses related to labs, music and aviation.
