LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Bodycam video released by the Newton County Sheriff's Office shows the tense moments surrounding the arrest of a man accused of abducting his 2-year-old daughter and leading police on a multi-state chase that ended in Indiana.
The incident started October 17 when police in Milwaukee say a Kenneth Brown, 30, kidnapped his daughter and then stole a van.
According to Indiana State Police, officers attempted to stop Brown because his headlights were off in Decatur, Illinois but he fled the scene and police lost track of him. Sometime later he stopped at a Wal-Mart in Watseka, Illinois and told somebody there that he had kidnapped a girl and stole a van. That person called the police.
Brown crossed into Indiana where Indiana State Police and multiple Indiana police agencies became involved, including the Newton County Sheriff's Office.

After police laid down stop sticks, they were finally able to stop the van near Lafayette and an officer ran into the side of it so Brown couldn’t drive away again.
Officers can be heard yelling “Get out of the car, get your hands up” before Brown put a knife to the 2-year-old’s throat.
Officers are then heard yelling, “Put the knife down” and “That’s somebody’s kid” for several minutes before they eventually break out the windows of the van.
Brown then hands over the child and starts injuring himself with the knife. That’s when an officer used a Taser to attempt to subdue him and after several more minutes, they are eventually able to get Brown from the vehicle. He was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Brown is facing multiple charges in Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin including kidnapping and criminal confinement on top of three previous warrants.
