Top six things to do in Indy this weekend: December 2, 2016

Posted

INDIANAPOLIS -- This weekend will be dominated by Big Ten Championship events but trust me, there's more.

There may not look like this week's edition is loaded with events, but I promise there are six amazing things to do for all ages.

Here are your top six things to do in Indy this weekend:

It’s Big Ten weekend!

Sure the Big Ten Championship game is important, but what can be even more entertaining are the activities surrounding the event. At the Big Ten Fan Fest this Friday and Saturday you can become a game analyst for the day, participate in interactive games and giveaways and much more. The Big Ten store will feature authentic team merchandise as well. Taps & Touchdowns at the Pan Am Plaza Friday will allow you to enjoy all-you-can-taste craft beer, wine, hard cider, hard soda and snacks from dozens of breweries and restaurants. The event will also include games, trivia and live music. The Big Ten Meijer Tailgate Party on Georgia Street this Saturday will feature fan contests, games, live performances, a beverage garden, photo opportunities and the world famous St. Elmo Shrimp Eating Championship. The contest will begin at 3 p.m. during the tailgate event. Last year's winner,Joey Chestnut, ate 12.25 pounds of (spicy) shrimp cocktail in 8 minutes. Wow!

More information on these events can be found here: Fan fest, Taps & Touchdowns, Tailgate party.

Join the twilight parade

The city’s only night time parade, Broad Ripple Lights UP!, kickoffs this Saturday at 5:30 p.m. All groups, clubs, organizations, businesses, schools, sports teams, bands, performers are welcome to participate in the parade, or if you’d like to just watch, that’s OK too. The Kids’ Winterland Village begins at 3 p.m. and following the parade will be a holiday lighting ceremony at fire station No. 32.

More information can be found at broadripplelightsup.org.

Are you ready to stumble?

Stumble through Broad Ripple that is. If you’re ready for a good time, join the third annual Santa Stumble Pub Crawl as you and other stumblers make their way down Broad Ripple Avenue in search of Santa. This Saturday beginning at 2 p.m., you can visit Mineshaft, Average Joes, Broad Ripple Tavern, The Village Tap, Brothers, Brickhouse Piano Bar and more. Oh, and if you have that new holiday sweater you’re dying to wear, holiday themed-dress is encouraged. Stumblers will be split into five color-coordinated groups, so make sure to sign up with your friends. Tickets include entry into the pub crawl, a Stumble scarf (to the first 600 ticket holders only), a Stumble mug and two free drink tickets.

More information can be found on the event’s ticket page

Bonus item!

If you're looking for something special to do with your kids this weekend, the Indy with Kids Advent Calendar has loads of activities for each day of the month. You can check it out here.
