Traffic stop in Lafayette turns up $30K-worth of heroin

LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Indiana State Police found $30,000-worth of heroin Sunday in a traffic stop in Lafayette.

An ISP trooper attempted to stop a 2007 silver Saab SUV around 6:21 a.m. Sunday on State Road 26 near Red Cloud Drive.

The vehicle eventually pulled into a McDonald's parking lot.

After reportedly observing narcotics in the vehicle, and in the possession of the passenger, Jerelle Gatlin, 42, of Kokomo, both Gatlin and the driver, R.C. Gatlin, 49, of Kokomo, were taken into custody.

The pair face preliminary charges of dealing in a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and maintaining a common nuisance.
