BROWN COUNTY, Ind. -- Jurors began hearing testimony Tuesday in the trial of a man accused of killing an Indiana University student in 2015.
Daniel Messel is in court for the killing of Hannah Wilson. Wilson, 22, was killed in April 2015. Her body was found in Brown County.
The coroner said she died from blunt force trauma to the head.
During opening statements, Messel's attorney said her client is the innocent victim of an incomplete police investigation.
She said officers quickly arrested their first suspect and ignored other possible suspects.

Wilson's death came nearly four years after another IU student, Lauren Spierer, vanished after a night out with friends in the college town. The 20-year-old Greenburgh, New York, woman was last seen on June 3, 2011. She has not been found and no criminal charges have been filed in her disappearance.
The Bloomington Police Department investigated any possible links between Spierer and Wilson, but none were found.
