INDIANAPOLIS—On a March afternoon last year in Indianapolis, bail bondsman Byron Frierson was shot and killed at West 22nd Street and North Illinois Avenue, in front of the Stuart Mortuary funeral home.

Now, trial is underway in Marion County Criminal Court for the 20-year-old Indianapolis man suspected in Frierson's murder.

Robert Dew is charged with Murder, Dealing in a Narcotic Drug, Dealing in Methamphetamine, and Carrying a Handgun Without a License.

At the time of the murder, homicide investigators with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said Frierson was trying to arrest Dew who was wanted for multiple felonies.

Dew had been in the funeral home and when he came out, Frierson attempted to take him into custody. Instead, the 55-year-old owner of Byron's No Limit Bail Bonds was shot twice.

Police, who were also looking for Dew and were in the area, made a quick arrest.
