INDIANAPOLIS — Trial is underway in Marion County Criminal Court for John Woodcock, a 37-year-old man charged in the 2018 murder of a woman on the city's near southeast side.

According to a probable cause affidavit from the Marion County Prosecutor, Woodcock was involved in an argument with a man identified as Adam Walls inside a house in the 1500 block of Barth Avenue during the early-morning hours of July 9, 2018.

Detectives say 40-year-old Heather Mandujano, who was also in the house, tried to stop the argument, but ended up being shot in the head. She was declared brain dead later in the day, but was kept alive three more days for organ donation.

During the argument, Walls was allegedly struck by Woodcock with the same gun use in the murder. Two days later, police found the gun along the banks of Pleasant Run, not far from the shooting scene.

Woodcock faces one count each of Murder and Battery. Testimony in the trial began Monday after a jury was picked.
