INDIANAPOLIS -- Two Northwest High School assistant football coaches were arrested Thursday night on drug charges.

Michael Malone and Ja'Rell Smith were arrested on charges of dealing marijuana and possession of marijuana following a traffic stop.

The arrests were made near 34th Street and Moller Road, just a few blocks north of Northwest High School, where both men work.

In addition to working as assistant coaches, IPS said the men work full time as special education assistants. Both men were suspended pending the results of the police investigation.

IPS released the following statement to RTV6 Friday afternoon:

“Two IPS employees were arrested on marijuana-related charges on Thursday, September 8. This incident did not happen on school property nor did it involve students, and the employees did not return to school after the arrest. Both employees have been suspended pending further information.”
