INDIANAPOLIS — A pair of national publications have named Indianapolis to their lists of the "best places to go in 2021."

According to representatives of Visit Indy, Indianapolis has been named to Conde Nast Traveler's list of "Best Places to Go in 2021" and Travel + Leisure's "Best Places to Travel in 2021."

Indianapolis was one of only five domestic destinations added to the Conde Nast list of 21 places. Global cities that made the list included Tasmania, Australia; Kyoto, Japan; and Oslo, Norway.

On the Travel + Leisure list, Indianapolis joined 50 destinations that include The Catskills, Las Vegas and New York City.

Both travel outlets cited Indy's new $300 million Bottleworks District, the expansion of the Indianapolis Cultural Trail, and The LUME Indianapolis exhibition at Newfields as top reasons to visit.

"It's hard enough to make one 'best places in the world' list in any given year so it's really incredible for Indy to be named to two of them in 2021 by these highly regarded travel authorities," Leonard Hoops, president and CEO of Visit Indy, said. "And what a great time to be on those lists. While it will take years to fully recover from the pandemic, we know there is palpable pent-up demand to travel and explore, and we look forward to a strong and sustained recovery beginning next spring."
