INDIANAPOLIS — Two toddlers were seriously hurt when the vehicle they were in crashed during a police chase late Tuesday morning in Indianapolis.

According to a spokesman for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers had gone to a hotel in the 2800 block of North Shadeland Avenue to check on a disturbance.

Police spotted an SUV that was ramming another car in the parking lot and then took off on Shadeland.

Police gave chase and a few blocks later, the driver lost control and the SUV crashed into a tree.

Three children were in the vehicle.

A five-year-old is in critical condition, a four-year-old is serious but stable, and a one-year-old was treated for minor injuries.

Police believe two of the children were not in any type of child restraint systems inside the vehicle.

The woman who was driving the SUV is believed to be the mother of the children, according to police.

She has been identified as 44-year-old Aisha Moore.

She was taken to a hospital for a blood draw to see if drugs or alcohol played a part in the incident.

Police say this is an "active and ongoing investigation."
