INDIANAPOLIS – Hundreds of people from all over the country helped raise money for Riley Children’s Hospital during a video game competition.
Ten years ago, a group of Indy gamers created Mario Marathon to benefit children’s hospitals across the globe. The competition allowed participants to play a variety of Super Mario games for a good cause.
In Indy, the gaming marathon began Friday and was still going strong more than 80 hours later.
"A couple from Phoenix, some from Seattle Washington, some from Vancouver Canada, some from Michigan drove in. We had some people drive in from Maryland,” said Nathan Jones of Mario Marathon. "They give video games and books and toys and things to Children's Hospital's around the world and to domestic abuse shelters. So locally they actually give to Riley."
The get more donations, the competition was streamed live online which allowed people to give in real time.
"By streaming online and interacting with a much larger community, we are able to harness the community and just drive donations to a good cause,” said Jones.
