HENDRICKS COUNTY, Ind. -- A video of a frustrated bus driver honking her horn as several vehicles ignore the bus’s flashing lights and stop sign, driving past the stopped bus has been shared hundreds of times.

The parents who took the video say this has been a regular scene since the beginning of the school year, and they’re fed up with the motorists who they say continue to put children’s lives in danger.

The video was taken on U.S. 36 in Hendricks County. Kris Harmless says she took the video before her 12-year-old daughter walked out to the bus Tuesday morning.

“Luckily they were still in the driveway so they hadn’t started to cross the road yet,” Harmless said.

The video shows several vehicles ignoring the flashing stop sign attached to the bus.

After the Harmless’ home video surfaced, the Sheriff said he assigned extra patrols along the bus route. They didn’t catch anyone on Wednesday, but they hope their presence will remind drivers to obey the law.

Hendricks County Sheriff’s Department says running the stop sign on a bus is a class B misdemeanor. The maximum penalty if you’re caught is 180 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.
