INDIANAPOLIS -- We know Gov. Mike Pence well in Indiana, but it appears that's not the case among voters in general.
A national poll released Wednesday found that 48 percent of voters don't know enough about Donald Trump's running mate to form an opinion about him.
The NBC News/SurveyMonkey online poll revealed that 26 percent of voters view Pence favorably, while another 26 percent view him unfavorably.
He's also not well-known to the conservative base of the Republican party.
The poll found that 47 percent of voters who describe themselves as very conservative said Pence was a good choice for Trump, while 43 percent said they don't know enough about him to form an opinion one way or the other.
Trump chose Pence to be his VP to help shore up the base and add political experience to the ticket, according to The Hill.
Voters may know Pence better after he speaks at the Republican National Convention Wednesday night and formally accepts the party's nomination as vice president.
