SHELBYVILLE, Ind. -- A man with an outstanding warrant for traffic violations crashed into an Indiana State Police car Friday evening.

The crash occurred on I-74 eastbound near Shelbyville.

State police said they spotted a vehicle driving on the shoulder at a high rate of speed to pass traffic backed up in a construction zone.

When a trooper pulled onto the shoulder to stop the driver, another vehicle also traveling at a high rate of speed on the shoulder sideswiped the trooper's car.

The driver of that vehicle was found to be 48-year-old Oscar Alvarez, who had an outstanding arrest warrant for traffic violations in Henry County.

Alvarez was taken into custody and transported to the Henry County Jail.

The trooper involved in the crash was not injured.
