SOUTH CAROLINA — An Indiana family vacationing in South Carolina had an up-close and personal encounter with a baby shark on the beach.
Lisa Karen Durrett said her family is from Franklin but they were vacationing at Surfside Beach on Tuesday, not far from Myrtle Beach. At least three unprovoked shark attacks and several other shark sightings have been reported in the Carolinas in recent weeks.

Durrett said she and her daughter were swimming about 20 feet away when they heard the commotion and ran over to see a baby shark flopping in the shallow waves.
“It was pretty scary to think that sharks are this close,” Durrett said.
Durrett said a man fishing nearby captured the baby shark a short time later.
