INDIANAPOLIS – An elderly couple from Lawrence died following a car accident with a K9 officer on the city's northeast side.
Police said the officer was responding to a shoplifting call around 2 p.m. near Mitthoefer and Pendleton Pike when the crash happened.
The officer was driving eastbound, and the another vehicle was heading westbound and attempting to turn south.
Initially, the man driving the westbound car went to the hospital for a broken leg, and his wife was in critical condition.
Selma Elling, 87, and Norman Elling, 86, later died at the hospital, according to police.
