AVON, Ind. – A woman died at a hospital after a house fire in Avon Wednesday night.
Avon firefighters said the fire started in the kitchen of the house in the 7600 block of Buttercup Court around 9:30 p.m.
The smoke left the woman unconscious on the floor, detectives said. She was taken to a hospital in very critical condition, where she died.
The Hendricks County Coroner identified the woman as Jessica Elston, 32.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Avon Fire Department, the Marion County Coroner's office and the Hendricks County Sheriff's Office.
Officials with the University of Indianapolis said Elston worked as an administrative assistant at the campus library.
